Government Medical College, Kallakurichi (GMCK) is a Government of Tamil Nadu medical institution situated at Siruvangur, Kallakurichi district. It is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. The college offers the MBBS undergraduate programme with an annual intake of 150 seats.

Admission is purely on NEET-UG merit: 85% of seats are filled under the State Quota by the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education, Tamil Nadu, and the remaining 15% under the All India Quota through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). Being a Government institution, GMCK has no management or NRI quota seats.

GMCK functions with its attached Government Medical College Hospital, Kallakurichi, a teaching hospital serving the surrounding district. The hospital records an average daily out-patient attendance of over 3,100 patients and maintains near-full bed occupancy through the year, supporting more than 2,400 major and minor surgeries every month across General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology and Dental departments.

Teaching is organised across 20 departments spanning Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical and Clinical disciplines, staffed by faculty appointed as per NMC norms. Government Medical College, Kallakurichi (GMC Kallakurichi) is one of the newest additions to Tamil Nadu’s growing network of government medical colleges. Established in 2021, the college was inaugurated as part of the state’s ambitious expansion of healthcare and medical education facilities in underserved districts.

Affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the institution currently offers the MBBS course and admits students based on their NEET-UG ranks. Despite being a recently established college, GMC Kallakurichi is equipped with modern infrastructure and is steadily developing into a full-fledged medical training institute.
